Waking up

Waking up with my eyes closed

Looking at your side of the bed

Your lips part as if to say hello

But only a shrill I hear, not your sound; sweet and mellow.

The shrill gets louder and I jump up with my eyes open.

The alarm clock continues to ring.

You are not there, it’s all in my head.

The dream killers rendered my dream dead.

Another day, Another dawn.

Another smile I stifle for a yawn.
