There was this smile that was the sign of love,
There was a smile that was the sign of care,
There was a smile that welcomed
But seasons changed and that smile became rare.
When there was sadness on my face
The troubles around me had piled
You made the world a better place
All because you smiled
The smile was a sign of cheer
The smile was on the face of the one you hold dear
But then darkness dawned and sadness came near
The smile never wavered, in the smile you continued to trust
But happiness left the eyes
All that was left was a fragmented but hard crust.
At times you felt like crying
Life felt like an unfair trial
But you were appreciated without any lying
And so you turned your tears into a smile
Let your true colors shine through.
Alas, if wishes were horses then beggars would ride,
It’ll take more than some honesty for you to weather sadness’ tide.
